The Coastal recreation Path being built to link Ballina with Lennox head to the north leads off through the highly culturally sensitive area of East Ballina Aboriginal Place.
This was the site of a masacre of Aboriginal people in the late 1850s. Today the site is of great cultural significance to the local Aboriginal communities.
They were central to the interpretation of this section of the path and consented to contribute narratives that visitors can listen to as they travel along the path.
This is done by means of QR code links to a web app that works on all mobile devices and requires no advance preparation to use in terms of having to download an ap onto a phoen for example.
